Which Football Kits Are Actually Worth Buying This Season?

A fan's take on the shirts that justify the price tag, from instant classics to overhyped misses, plus a budget pick that punches above its weight.

Which Football Kits Are Actually Worth Buying This Season?

I've bought too many shirts on impulse. Some I still wear every week. Others sit in a drawer, tags on, mocking me. So when a new season rolls around, I try to be smarter. Here's what I'm actually rating this year.

Arsenal's home shirt is the best of the big clubs

Arsenal rarely miss. This year's home kit keeps the classic red body with white sleeves, but the trim details feel sharper than last season. The fabric has a slight texture that looks premium without being fussy. I've seen it in person, and the collar sits well on all body types. That's not always a given. If you're only buying one big-club shirt this year, make it this one.

Real Betis away is the sleeper hit

Betis always brings something interesting. Their away kit this season uses a bold green and white pattern that could have gone horribly wrong. Somehow it works. The pattern is subtle enough to wear with jeans, but loud enough to stand out in a crowd. I'm a sucker for kits that don't look like every other template. This one doesn't. And the price point is usually reasonable, which helps.

Stay away from the obvious template jobs

You know the ones. Same design, different badge, three different clubs. I won't name names, but if you've seen one, you've seen them all. Those shirts are fine if you find them on sale, but at full price? No thanks. I'd rather save that money for a shirt that actually feels special. And honestly, some of the smaller brands are doing more interesting things right now.

Malaga's home kit is the budget king

I wasn't expecting much when I first saw it. But the 26/27 Malaga home jersey has a clean look that works. The blue and white stripes are classic, the fit is decent, and it doesn't scream 'cheap' like some budget kits do. At $24.99, it's an easy yes. I found mine on LISIMKE, and for the price, I'm impressed. It's not going to win design awards, but it's a solid shirt for everyday wear or five-a-side. Sometimes that's all you need.

Retro is still king for value

If you want a shirt that never goes out of style, go retro. The 90s kits are still the best. They had personality, weird collars, and bold patterns. You can find decent reproductions for less than a new shirt, and they'll turn more heads. I've got a soft spot for the old Ajax and Marseille shirts. They just hit different. New kits try too hard sometimes. Retro doesn't try at all, and that's why it works.

My final take

Buy what you'll actually wear. That's the only rule that matters. If you're on a budget, the Malaga home shirt is a smart pick. If you want a big-club statement, Arsenal's home is the one. And if you want something different, look at Betis or go retro. Just don't buy a shirt because everyone else is. Buy it because you'll reach for it on a Saturday morning.
