Coming a few days ahead of an expected official launch, Manchester rapper Aitch gave everyone at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage a first look at Man United’s 2023/24 adidas home shirt this weekend.

We’re smack-bang in the middle of new kit season, where European teams are revealing their new strips for the coming campaign, and you’ve got to have your wits about you, because the marketing for new designs is expanding into all new cultures. That was certainly the case this weekend when Aitch took to the stage at Glastonbury in Manchester United’s new home shirt, with the reveal coming a few days ahead of the club's official launch, which has been announced for 27 June.

The 23-year-old, from the Manchester suburb of Moston, is a huge United fan, and he initially had the red shirt tucked into the waistband of his shorts, and it wasn't clear what it was. During a break between songs in his set, he spotted someone in the crowd wearing a Man City shirt and said: "You there, in the Man City top. You're not gonna like me after this.” He then produced the jersey, which had the name "Big Shell" and No. 40 on the back, and put it on, giving the world a first proper look at the new design.

Noticeable features included a black v-neck collar and a subtle sublimated pattern of the Lancashire red rose across the shirt – a nod to their historic home county. TeamViewer remains in place as the front of shirt sponsor, despite the club agreeing to buy itself out of the deal three years early in December – a move fans will probably applaud, given the look on this design, with it looking oversized and a little out of place. Here’s hoping for something a little more aesthetically pleasing.
